For thse of you that bought a home already or are looking!!
What was/is the most important thing to you about the places you looked at and the one you bought? Meaning, was it that nice new bathroom that sold you, or hardwood floors, the number of bedrooms, the size of the property or just the price? Just curious!!

Re: For thse of you that bought a home already or are looking!!
#1 was Location - convenience to NYC and to major highways as well as in a good school district - but that was more when we were looking to narrow down towns.
1- Good condition - we did not want a fix me upper. 2-Nice size and number of rooms, min. 4 bedroom, 2 bath and a big kitchen 3-Decent sized property - with enough yard to fit a pool one day
Great floors, CAC, nice baths, landscaping etc. were all pluses....
But most importantly, we felt like we were at home (not a starter home for us) - we wanted a house we could see ourselves in for the rest of our lives.

Re: For thse of you that bought a home already or are looking!!
Our decision was almost totally motivated by our unborn children. LOL!
1) It was school district first. I wanted my children to go to the best school possible with the best education possible, so that narrowed the towns significantly.
2) Amenities- the complex had a pool and tennis court, gym, clubhouse, basketball court and other young children, so that was wonderful for us. Also, a lot of people around our age. Our house is also on a large lake, so that was beautiful to look at.
3) Proximity to the city. We are one mile from town and train. And 45 minutes by train to the city. My husband will take the train to the city for work each morning.
4) Inside the house, number of bedrooms, the fact that it had a basement, skylights and high ceilings.

Re: For thse of you that bought a home already or are looking!!
for us it was the location first!
It's two minutes from the school I work at and a really great district.
Second was property size and basement. We eventually want to expand and rent out our basement for additional income.
Last was the feeling...we walked in and it was spacious and open..that's exactly what we wanted..esp. with the high ceilings!

Re: For thse of you that bought a home already or are looking!!
#1 - Location (which includes school district, proximity to NYC & airports by both driving and LIRR, neighborhood)
#2 - Property size (We were interested in .5 acre or more, preferably an acre and we wanted our neighbors to have similar property sizes.)
Basically, the house itself was irrelevant as long as it was liveable.

Price vs. the amount of work to be done on the house - we needed a happy medium
We didn't want a house we would need to make bigger in the future.
