Hawaii hotel recommendations please
I just got a quote from my travel agent for the Hyatt in Maui, Sheraton Moana Surfrider in Oahu and Princeville in Kaui.
My other option was Sheraton in Maui, Hyatt in Kaui and Sheraton Princess in Oahu. This quote was a little cheaper.
He is also looking into adding the big Island and cutting some days from oahu for the same prices I was given.
Are these hotels good, I hear Hyatt in kaui is awesome, is it better than the Princeville?
I have heard nothing about the sheraton surfrider or princess
Please help

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
I loved the Hyatt in Kauai (highly recommend) but we did visit the Princeville and it look fabulous as well. Some say the part of the island where the Hyatt is has better weather.
I here the 4 Seasons in Hawaii is better than the one in Maui. I hear it is amazing.
In Maui, I stayed at the Grand Wailea. I also visited the Fairmont Kei Lani and it was really nice. I didn't care for the 4 Seasons - too yuppie for me. I really liked the Wailea area of Maui.

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
I also stayed in the Hyatt in Kauai and loved it. I did not get to see the Princeville to compare though. We also stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui and that was absolutely gorgeous too. All the rooms there are suites and they are HUGE! If you have any questions about either of those two places, I'd be happy to share.
Good luck!

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
I was also looking into the Hyatt in Kauai and because I believe you get a special rate, I'll probably stay in the one in Oahu also. Has anyone stayed on the Club Regency floors of either of these hotels? Just wondering if the rooms are bigger and nicer or if your paying more money for the extra services you get? I can't seem to find the answer in any travel websites but I'm sure someone here would know. Thanks so much for any help.

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
Dont know much about those hotels. But I do know that you should not spend a lot of time in oahu. The other islands are all much nicer! I went to Hawaii and wish that I had less time in oahu more in maui etc...

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
I went on my honeymoon to Hawaii. We stayed in Oahu for two nights at Hilton Hawaiin Village. We only stopped there because we wanted to see Pearl Harbor. If you do go, I wouldnt spend too much time there. We went to Maui and Stayed at the Hyatt. Out of all of those hotels on the Kanapali strip I thought the Hyatt was the nicest. We went snorkeling down by the SHeraton and were glad we picked the Hyatt over the Sheraton. We did think the Hyatt in Aruba was nicer than this Hyatt though. I heard Kaui is beautiful and the Hyatt there is beautiful. We are sorry we didnt stop there. Good luck!

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
On Kauai I have stayed at both the Princeville and the Hyatt. Loved them both. The Princeville is a luxury hotel and very decadent. Probably more reserved. The Hyatt is on the side of the island with better weather and more to do. You can't go wrong with either. I have been to Maui 3 times and loved that island too. The two hotels on maui are both nice. If you are looking for a luxury hotel try the Kapalua Bay hotel. We got engaged there and returned for our honeymoon. It's the most romantic place I have ever been to. I would stay there every time.

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
I went twice to hawaii with my family years ago and we went to Ohau, Maui, and Kauai. Oahu was interesting for about 2 days - go to pearl harbor - but I have to be honest and tell you I don't remember much else. The other two islands are amazing. In addition to the beautifrul beaches and drives, we went to a buddest temple where birds come and eat out of your hand. If it was my choice I would I would go for 1 or 2 days to Ohau to see what it is all about but would spend my time on the other two islands. One year we took a day trip to the main island, rented a car and drove around the volcanos. This was another amazing experience. We got a great deal for it thru our travel agent. You go and see the black sand beaches, the spots where the lava is flowing over the roads, and the general volcano park. It was an experience I will always remember

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
tarakinspa-yes, I did hear that there were a lot of kids at the Grand Wailea before I went there and it did worry me. During the week there weren't too many but on the weekend there was (by the pool). They didn't bother me and there is an adult pool if you want to get away. October/November is their slow season and I was wondering if they left locals or staff people bring familes. Most of the people taht were there on the weekend looked like local people.
I hear that the Four Seasons on the Big Island is tremendous. My friend stayed at both that one and the one in Maui and said the one one the Big Island is amazing - 10x better than the one in Maui.
Let me see if I have pictures fron either hotel that I can post........

Grand Wailea - took this from our room too. There is a chapel where a couple people got married. It was cute except on Sunday because the church bells went off at 8 am.

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
We went to Hawaii in September. We didn't stay at the hotels you're considering, but I used fodors.com (the talk section) to get opinions about the specific hotels, and we were very happy with our choices. The only "mistake" I made was going to Oahu to Kaui then Maui, I would recommend going to Kaui last if you can.
Happy planning! JenC

Re: Hawaii hotel recommendations please
i just came back from hawaii too...we had a great time and a lot of it had to do with the hotels we stayed at...in maui we stayed at the kea lani (i've heard the hyatt here is bnot so hot) - you get so much for your money here...the room is actually a suite....it's gorgeous!!
in oahu and kauai we stayed at the hyatts.....in oahu the location was great but the hotel itself is okay - nice room, nothing special....since oahu is so 'busy' we spent much more time away from the room than the other islands (went out at night, etc)....
in kauai, stay at the hyatt vs. the princeville if you are looking for good weather b/c the weather up north where the princeville is, is iffy....if you don't care about the weather so much, then go to the princeville - although it is a bit far off.....the hyatt was nice but they totally nickel and dime you for everything...it's not such a great hotel, but it really doesn't have as much competition as there is on maui which the top-notch resorts....
good luck and have fun!!!
