Re: Kauai suggestions

We stayed at The Hyatt and LOVED it. We went scuba diving and I went to the spa for a massage and it was great. There was a local beach, I forgot which one, but we watched the sunset. It was beautiful. I don't remember which restaurants we went to, I'll have too look back at my pictures, but they were all amazing. We loved it there.

Re: Kauai suggestions

We also stayed at the Hyatt and loved it! It was so beautiful and there was a lot to do...we ate at restaurants around there in town (that were suggested by staff). I definitely recommend it!

Re: Kauai suggestions

I second (or third) the Hyatt. One of the nicest hotels we ever stayed at and I travel a lot (between vacations and work). Beautiful hotel, beach, pool, great location on the island, unbelievable restaurants, views and service.

Re: Kauai suggestions

cool...thanks for the feedback. My only doubt about Hyatt was for swimming, my guidebook says the water is too rough?

Are you going to try and swim at the beach at the Hyatt or go to another beach? I suggest going to another beach. The beach at the Hyatt is called Shipreck (sp?) and it is called that for a reason. Trust me we learned the hard way. DH and I tried to snorkel and it was so rough and there was coral reef everywhere. We still have scars from falling on the coral. My leg and DH's knee was bleedling because we fell in the coral. It really was not fun. You can see if anyone else is in the water at the time, but I would not suggest going there. There is a nice beach a few minutes away that you can drive to and it is nicer. We also went scuba diving and I got sea sick because the water was rough.

Re: Kauai suggestions

My favorite beach in the world is Maniniholo Beach at Ha'ena State Park. It's awesome! Def go if you have a chance.

Re: Kauai suggestions

thanks for the suggestions...I do love to swim in the ocean, so I thought about staying elsewhere...but you gals make a pretty good case for Hyatt.
I tend to be more of a small hotel person, but this is my honeymoon!

Re: Kauai suggestions

We waded in the ocean at the Hyatt and it was way too rough...i don't suggest it! However, when we were driving, we pulled up to a random local beach and it was a lot nicer swimming, but no lifeguard of course! Be careful!

Re: Kauai suggestions

We stayed on the north coast and actually preferred it to the south! We had a timeshare though, so not that helpful, but it was in the Princeville Hotel area. The Princeville Hotel is very nice but the pool didn't look to great. We loved the town Hanalei and all of the beaches/snorkeling/hiking up north. We snorkled in Poipu also and that was amazing.

Re: Kauai suggestions

Yep, we just stayed on the north shore, but spent a day or two on the south. Princeville was beautiful, but from what I saw the pool wasn't THAT amazing. I believe they are renovating and becoming a St. Regis soon.
