Official 30+ Brides (previously 40+ thread)
This thread was orignally started for the 40+ Brides but would love to invite all 30+ brides to join.
I love talking to all the brides out there but I would like to hear what us "Older Brides" are doing to plan their wedding. I am finding that I am doing things a little different and would like to see what others are doing.
My name is Celia and 46 y/o bride.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
I have been thinking about all the traditional parts of a reception and I have decided not to do some of them. I am not going to do the garter/boquet toss or the mother/son- father/daughter dance. Have you/will you be doing any of these? Will people expect it?

Re: Official 40+ Brides
Stacy 39 turning 40 a month after the wedding.
I am not doing the garter but will probably do the bouquet although I think quite a few of my friends will be engaged by the time of the wedding and the other half are going to be preggos again on their seconds. Most of my friends got married in their 30's
if you are not doing the garter/bouquet the anniversary dance is very nice, celebrate the people who have been married the longest.

You could give a bouquet of flowers or bottom of champagne to that couple.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
We're not doing the garter/bouquet toss thing. Besides the fact that I absolutely HATED it when I felt like I was the last single woman, we are officially the last of our friends to get married so there's no one to toss anything too!
We have decided that instead of the anniversary dance - we are giving the bouquet to my sister's best friend who was the one who set us up.

I'm not doing the garter/bouquet toss or the mother/son- father/daughter dance either. I do like the anniversary dance, but I have people in my family who doesn't dance or can't stand that long, so I am thinking of giving it to two couples. Do you think that is okay?

Re: Official 40+ Brides
I'm 36! I feel the same way. I'm not doing the garter- I can't imagine putting my hamhock thigh on display for everyone I love. CRINGE. Besides, it always sort of makes me uncomfortable when I see it at other weddings. No bo-k toss, either. And we're seeing each other before the wedding, so we can get all our pictures out of the way. I'm not missing any of it!!

Re: Official 40+ Brides
I was all for seeing each other before the ceremony for the pictures, but FH wanted to see me for the first time walking down the aisle (sometimes he surprises me).
So, instead we moved our church up half an hour and decided no receiving line at the church so we have time to take pictures and still not miss any of the cocktail hour!
Some relatives have made the "oh you're going to the cocktail hour?" remark and I have replied that yes, I'm paying for it, I waited a long time for it, and I'm not going to miss anything! FMIL made a comment about it and I told FH to tell her that if she doesn't agree she can pay for the wedding. No more comments from her!

Glad we have this thread! I'm having a MOH, BM, RB, and FG. Doing the anniversary dance and will give a bottle of wine or champagne. I'm getting all the pictures done before the cocktail hour. The time is going to fly and it's going to be a great time to mingle with guests.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
When we got married last year, my DH and I were both 51 years old.
We did not do the garter thing or the bouquet toss.
My dad passed away 8 years ago. My DH's dad passed away about 10 years ago. I told my DH that even though I couldn't do a Father/Daughter dance, I thought that he should do a Mother/Son dance. He agreed. I thought it was a very special moment for him and his Mom.
I also walked down the aisle by myself. I walked about 3/4 of the way down and my DH met me...and we walked the rest of the way to the altar together. I decided to do this because no one can replace my Dad.
We had the wedding that we wanted and invited the people that meant the most to us through the years.

I'm thinking of not having a BP. I would to walk half way and DH meets me and we walk to rest.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
I didn't want a BP either - just my two sisters - both as MOH. Then FH asked if I would include his sister (which I didn't want, but I'm doing for him.) So 2 MOH, 1 BM and 3 GM. They're not wearing the same dressess though - they will be color coordinated (they are 34, 42 and 39 years old) and will all look beautiful!
My mom is walking me down the aisle (she was the one who raised me and so deserves that moment). My father is lighting the unity candle. Yes, I've swapped their roles at the ceremony because my parents divorced and I really didn't have a relationship with my dad while growing up.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
Thanks so much - my mom doesn't yet know my plan. She asks who's walking me down the aisle and I avoid it for now. However, just the two of us are going away tomorrow for a long weekend and some mother/daughter bonding and I plan on asking her over brunch on Sunday before we come back home.
