Re: isnt it supposed to be a happy time

I had the same problem. I don't want a party at all but my family was pretty upset when I told them not to throw me one. I've only been engaged a week and already the drama is unbearable lol.

i didnt understand why my fiance wanted one so bad. we invited 220, had 180 - sit down dinner, a photobooth...it was better than some weddings, and i am so glad i gave in. it was the best night of our lives so far. just do it, when else can you ?? enjoy it!

Re: isnt it supposed to be a happy time

Funny, I just finished having this conversation with my FH last night. Idon't want an engagement party. Planning this wedding is hard enough without having to plan another party. He wants a big party (he's just going by what other people do) and I think immediate family, very close friends and bridal party only at a small dinner.Originally planning to have it at a restaurant, but that's just an added expense. Most likely going to do it at home. Just to celebrate the engagement and officially announce the bridal party. He agrees.

I swear I feel like I say "isn't this supposed to be a happy time" ALL THE TIME! From day to day I go from happy, trying to come up with ideas to "Let's just go to VEGAS!" Like every woman, I've always dreamed of my wedding - the perfect man, big white dress, all of it. Sooooo with that, I've learned to ignore everyone except my FH. Only his concerns matter in these decisions. If it REALLY means that much to HIM. If HE Really can't be without an engagement party, then compromise. If it's everyone else, well hun, this is when they start calling you Bridezilla LOL I've been called that a few times by my own mother and sister because I don't want an engagement party, I don't want to be married in church, I don't want children at the wedding, I would like chair covers at the reception!! They of course trying to talk me out of everything because, well, they know EVERYTHING, called me bridezilla. This isn't their wedding, they had their day - I now wear the name with pride!

IGNORE EVERYONE. Do whatever makes you happy. It's your day. Your turn - once in a lifetime experience. Make it everything you have ever dreamed of!!!!!

Heyy .. i see what you are saying.. trust me the wedding drama is only beginning! lol But you have to also remember the more extravagent your engagement party is, ppl will expect more and more from your wedding. Its almost as if you have to outdo your first party so be careful.. and also if someone isnt throwing the party for you, save money and go small. Put the extra money toward your wedding which is 100000x more important.. my enagement party was only about 75 ppl in a restaurant and it was nice enough.. just family and closest friends.
