Re: it's really bc awareness month for me

I can completely relate to you. A little over a month before my wedding I found a lump. I did not have time for doctors because of the wedding, work, and closing on my house. I figured I would take care of it after the honeymoon.

A good friend pushed me to go to the dr since my grandma died of breast cancer years ago. Found a lump, went for testing and was recommended for a biopsy but said heck no, i got a wedding to plan!

Well, after the HM was over and I was home, it finally set in, "this could be something serious!" I went and got a biopsy, but no mammogram (no one will give me one since I am only 27) the biopsy came back and it was only a fibroid, nothing cancerous. Due to my family history I now am told I have to go for a sono every 6 months to make sure the fibroid doesnt change or anything else develops.

That was a HUUUGGGEE wake up call! Please ladies, nothing is more important than your health! Take the time to test yourself and go to doctors and push them to test you if you feel something. Every nurse or receptionist I spoke to thought i was crazy since I was so young and "it typically does not happen to women as young as me" But it happens. Be crazy because only you know your body.

Hello again, sometimes I really enjoy taking a cruise through wedding world for old times sake.
Would love to imagine how my new boobs would look in a gown.

Lots of controversy over screening mammograms this week, I almost ended up on tv. My two cents worth, keep up to date on all the testing options besides mammograms. Themographs, ultrasound, pems, mris, some sort of new "gamma' machine.

Mammograms are not perfect, but they are a good place to start.

I am still recovering from my surgery. I looks as if I will start chemo soon(not a done deal though) then radiation.

I will say I am so glad I got married, this is so much harder if you are single.

Be healthy and happy ladies!

OMG! i had no idea Suzanne, I just saw this today. You will be in my prayers, I'm sorry fgor everything you are going through. Some of the "over 30" ladies posted about you a couple of days ago asking where you have been.

Re: it's really bc awareness month for me

"that which doesnt kill us only makes us stronger..."

You are a very brave & strong woman & I know that you will get through this - it is a very important message you put out there & it took great courage to do that...for that I thank you & commend you. You have the backing & prayers from ALL of us on LIW.

on a side note: my FIL has prostate cancer - he was diagnosed about 10 years ago, was put on lupron injections for a while & it seemed to go into remission - we just found out last week that his PSA has skyrocketed & has been put back on the lupron again. He goes back to the Dr right b4 Christmas to check his count again - if it hasnt changed or if its only increased - they are talking chemo or radiation. It's very scary for both DH & I.

I have been on my dad to keep himself going for regular checkups b/c he's the type that only goes to the Dr when things go wrong (sadly my DH is the same way ) Anyway I trangressed off the main topic - but I think it's important for both men & women to perfom checks on themselves & keep up w/their annual or bi-annual physicals!

Best of luck to you & prayers are being said!

Re: it's really bc awareness month for me

Hi....just thought I would say hi. I have my final treatment on Tuesday. After that I will be an official survivor!

While I had a tough time with my surgery recovery, I have had a pretty easy time with radiation.
Thanks for helping to keep me amused during this whole thing. Sometimes looking at wedding stuff is just a nice "mind vacation" for me.

I do think I will sign up for the NW lunch, since I named the cookbook. I swear I did not realize it was an '09 thing. Blame it on the pain meds!

Oh and I have a breast cancer blog,if you know someone who is in the same situation they may enjoy it.

Cheers, good luck, love, and health! Thanks for all the wonderful support, I wrote about y'all in the "08 essay contest.

Re: it's really bc awareness month for me

So glad to hear you're doing so well! I was actually on my HM when you originally posted so I never got to comment but I just want to thank you for posting this.

I actually found a lump about 6 months before my wedding. I lost my aunt 8 years ago to breast cancer so I immeadietly took action. I didn't have insurance at the time so DH and I actually made the decision to have a civil ceremony so I could be added to his insurance right away instead of waiting until the "big wedding" day. Thankfully it was just a fatty cyst but now I check every month to make sure all feels right. Your post is an affirmation that you always have to be proactive about your health.

Good luck to you as you enter remission and make the transition from breast cancer fighter to survivor. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Be well!
