My 10-10-09 Big Fat Puerto Rican wedding!!! Designs by Rose, Camelot, Ultimate Sound DJ's, Leonard's of Great Neck, All dolled up, M*i*a and Fairy tale events!!!

I came across this wonder of a site when I was searching for prices on different halls and I got hooked immediately. I just lurked at first and then joined in the chat. Thank you LIW and all it’s wonderful brides and brides to be for sharing so much valuable information for helping me with all my wedding planning for without you I would’ve been totally lost!! Please keep in mind A+ is the highest I will give I won’t go nuts with the +’s.

We had originally invited 93 guests at the end we only had 65 coming and on the wedding day only 58 guests showed because my aunt was hospitalized and my cousins didn’t come since they wanted to by her side and other people just didn’t show.

I will be adding more pictures as I get more and also my pro pics once I get those as well. Hope you enjoy my review!!

Engagement ring and wedding bands: Helzberg-Queens Center mall-A+
We had went over to the Diamond district after work one day and since most stores close at 5pm we had no place to look. So went to the mall to look around and we either got ignored or the sales people were way too pushy .So we walked into Helzberg and we were asked if we needed any help right away we told them we were looking around and thankfully we were given our space. When we were ready to look at one in particular we were helped right away and given the specifics of the diamond we even looked at the diamond under a microscope and it was truly a wondrous site . It was perfect and exactly of what I always dreamed of!!

Engagement party: Backyard of my mom’s house-A+
We really didn’t want a E-party but my family was pushing it on us so we gave in and decided to just have something small like a BBQ of sorts. I didn’t do any diy’s because I hadn’t come across LIW yet so we only gave out shot glasses filled with candy(Party city) and wrapped in purple or clear wrap(ordered from favorfavor.com-A+). We also had balloons on each table but they kept falling off because it was super humid with a hot wind all day long. It was really fun but the heat was horrible.

It was so hot!!

Save the Dates- Vistaprint.com and Target-A+
I didn’t want to spend much on STD’s so I decided to order some magnets from vistaprint and I bought these STD cards from Target that were on sale and I just affixed glue dots onto the magnet and attached it to the card and Voila! my STD’s were done!!

Shower invites/balloons/décor- Orientaltrading.com- A+
They were super affordable and really cute since it was for a small shower my mom didn’t want to go crazy. We dressed up the invites with a pink bow and printed out some cards that stated where I was registered at.

Shower favors-Favorfavor.com -A+
My mom ordered these candy jars and she filled up with pink candies from candywarehouse.com(A+) and then wrapped them up in clear cellophane and a hot pink ribbon.

Shower: Marbella restaurant-Bayside-A
My mom coordinated my shower and she decided on Marbella’s because my family had other parties there and it never had went wrong for them. There was a buffet lunch/dinner spread ranging from deviled eggs, cheese empanadas, ziti, paella, salad, punch, soda and cake that they provided etc(too much to remember lol). My cousin also made for me some awesome chocolate lollipops that matched my hot pink, black and white theme and DH bought some yummy buttercream pink cupcakes from Martha’s bakery in Forest Hills(A+). I didn’t care for the cake it was very tasty but thankfully the cupcakes and chocolate lollipops made up for it. So overall it’s a nice place if you want to have your shower.

Wedding invites: Myself-A+
I looked around different websites and didn’t really care for anything that I saw since I wanted any invite that had a Fall theme to it. I came on LIW and saw so many other brides who had DIYed their invites and were able to play out their theme I figured hmm why not I could do this. I was lucky enough to have another bride Gerriann (thank you so much!!!!)I forgot her LIW sn to show me her invite template and I was able to tweak it a bit to make it more mine.

Paper for invites/menus and placecards-cardsandpockets.com-A+
I really didn’t know where to start off with ordering my paper, envelopes and pocketfolds but I searched on LIW and sure enough cardsandpockets.com popped up so I decided to give it a try and I ordered my paper without even ordering one sample. When it arrived the paper was thick and of superb quality it was truly perfect for my invites. The envelopes were gorgeous since I had ordered them gold metallic and the pocketfolds were gorgeous as well. I had to keep ordering since more and more guests kept being invites I had to keep making more invites but the shipping was super quick so I was able to receive my supplies like 3 days after I had ordered them using Ground shipping. I also ordered this clear adhesive that was perfect for gluing paper because it doesn’t seep thru the paper and if you got some on a place you didn’t want any glue you were able to rub it off and it looked perfect.

Menus-Myself!!- A+
I wanted everything to show off my Fall theme so I made my own menus with a leaf on top and that colors match my invites. You can see pictures of it below in the flower section.

Other supplies for invites-Michaels-A+
Since I wanted to incorporate my Fall theme I wanted to add leaves unto my invites so I bought this Martha Stewart cutter that could do leaf cutouts and it was truly perfect for my invites and placecards. I bought ribbon and glue dots for my invites and once again..perfect!!

Cardbox-Myself!!- A+
I bought my hat boxes from AC Moore for around $3 each on sale, bought fabric from one of the fabric stores in Jackson Heights, ribbon, pearls and flowers from Michael’s and it was exactly what I was looking for!!

Flowergirl basket, bubbles, tulle for favors, engraved ribbon for favors- wrapwithus.com-A+
I bought all these things on the cheap and they were all perfect all served the purpose.

Unity candle holder-Lenox-A+
I wanted to buy a unity candle holder that could truly be a keepsake so I went to the Lenox website and came across this beautiful holder for $30 and they would it engrave it for free with your names and wedding date and totally matched our theme. I bought the candles from Michael’s and decorated them myself and it was perfect!!

Lenox outlet Riverhead-A+
DH and I were at Tanger one day so I asked him to let’s go into Lenox just to look and sure enough I found my beautiful toasting glasses and cake cutter set and of course they were discounted!!

DIY table numbers-Myself-A+
I wanted to add another thing to go with our theme so I named our tables after trees, bought these gold frames from Jack’s 99 cent store and bought the pearls from Michael’s under their Bride collection. They were supposed to punch thru paper but I cut off the prongs it had and hot glued them unto my frames and tadaaa!!

DIY cake table WE Do letters- Myself-A+
I bought the letter from Michael’s painted them with gold paint and applied some crystals unto them and that was that.

Cake table plaque from Channa my-sweet-memories.com-A+
I saw a few girls on here who had bought a plaque for their cake tables and I loved this idea so much so I contacted Channa and she made a gorgeous plaque with our wedding colors and even used the same font that I had used on my invited for our names. Channa was super sweet and truly a doll to work with.
This is a dark pic of the plaque.

Cake topper-Weddingfactorydirect.com-A+
I had tried to DIY a monogrammed cake topper but I messed it up so I gave up on it so I decided to just buy one already made and I got this blinged out one for $25 and it shined like crazy under the lights of my RH.

Favors-favorfavor.com-A+
I had two favors one the candle votive and the other a candy buffet that I kept going back and forth on but eventually did it.

Candle votive:I wanted something more to incorporate our theme so as soon as I saw these Fall themed votives I just loved how they looked so that became our favor. It was super fast shipping.

Candy buffet: I bought all of my vases from save-on-crafts.com(A+) because they had an awesome variety of vases for a great price and I didn’t want to spend tons of money on vases. I bought all of my candy from metrocandy.com(A+) they had the best prices from all the candy websites I had been on even better than candywarehouse and they were excellent quality and very fresh tasting. I bought my scoops from orientaltrading.com and no problems either.

Favor tags and matches- invitationsbydawn-A+
I saw these tags knew I had to have them and they went perfectly with our theme. We were planning on having a box of cigars so of course we had to get the matches and they were a hit.

Our placecards

BP gifts-Coach,LL Bean, Etsy, Orientaltrading.com and jewelry store on 32nd st and 6th avenue(can’t remember the name)- A+
I bought my BM’s wristlets from Coach for around $20 each because I went on a Sunday and they were giving out an extra 20% coupon so they were super affordable and it’s Coach you can’t go wrong!!

I wanted to buy my BM’s a bag that they could use for a long time for work, school etc so I bought them these adorable canvas tote bags in LL bean in their favorite colors and with their initials. Two of my BM’s used it on the day of the wedding to hold some personal items of theirs.

This is the one i bought for myself but theirs was the same just different colors

I bought them gorgeous jewelry sets that matched their dresses perfectly from a store on 32nd street and 6th avenue for $6 each and they didn’t tarnish or anything. I had also gotten them these jewelry boxes from Michael’s painted them gold to match the wedding colors and place the jewelry in them and it was perfect.

I also bought them these Swarovski hair pins from Etsy seller NorthwestBridal (6 pins for $6)that matched their jewelry and they were gorgeous as well. I also bought them these gorgeous clutch purses from Etsy as well the sellers name was Ruffled for the day of the wedding in chocolate brown with a orange stripe and they were so pretty I wanted one for myself!! She accommodated me so well because I decided a week before the wedding I wanted to get them purses and I advised the seller this if she could do them as a rush order and she had no problems with it at all and I received them on the Thursday before my wedding. I also bought my MOH a blinged out tank top also from Etsy and the sellers name was Customblingapparel since she was the only one getting ready with me.

I bought my flowergirl a small duffel bag with her named engraved on it and it also said Flower girl on it off of orientaltrading.com, her jewelry set as well, teddy bear dressed up as a bride from AC Moore teddy bear earrings from the city.

DH bought his bestman a guitar for Guitar hero so that was one less thing I had to worry about.

I bought DH these adorable cufflinks from Etsy seller Theclaycollection since he’s a Xbox fanatic and he totally loved them!!

My accessories:
I bought my Knicks garter off of EBay because I wanted a sports garter for my sports fan DH. I believe the sellers name was garters by Kristi and it was so cute the set I got and DH loved it .

DOJ-earrings-Overstock.com-A+
I wanted to get a set of pearl earrings that weren’t too big and that didn’t look cheap so I went on overstock and bought these gorgeous pair of earrings for $80 and they were simply gorgeous!!

Etsy-BelleNouvelleDesigns-Bracelet(B because it broke) and Necklace(A)I wanted one of those large bracelets with the crystal in the middle so I came onto LIW looking for Etsy sellers that sold those bracelets and I was recommended to BelleNouvelleDesigns. I found the bracelet that I was looking for and my goodness when I received it..and it was gorgeous and so sparkly, I was in love!!! The day of the wedding though since so many people were trying to put it on my wrist the lock broke off and I couldn’t use it . I also ordered a simple pearl necklace to match my other jewelry and it was very pretty as well.

Bridal purse- store on 32nd st and 6th avenue-A+
I needed something blue and I was looking for a purse so when I saw this cute vintagey bag I had to have it. It was $18 and exactly what I wanted.

Shoes-Shoebuy.com-A+
I wanted a shoe that was short because I can’t walk with high heels at all!! So I was searching for shoes online since in store I hadn’t seen anything and I came across shoebuy.com and I automatically found them. They had free return shipping so I figured if they aren’t comfortable I can just return them. When I tried them on they were so comfortable I knew I had my wedding shoe. I dyed them ivory at DeBar shoes(A+) in Maspeth because I just wanted to go with the traditional color. I also bought these beautiful shoe clips online but they broke right before I walked into the church .

Undergarments-Orchard corset-A+
I was recommended to Orchard corset by a friend of mine who has been going to them to purchase her undergarments from them for years so I figured why not let me check it out since they are located in the city. I brought a picture of my gown to the store and the saleslady knew exactly what I needed and gave me the perfect corset. I also purchased a girdle but I didn’t need it at the end.

Headpiece and veil-RK bridal-A+
The day I bought my gown the saleslady Olga asked me what I was looking for so I told her I wanted a mantilla veil so she found me the most beautiful veil that I have ever seen that matched my dress perfectly and then she tried this headpiece on my and once again it was GORGEOUS!! It was so shiny and just looked so beautiful with all the Swarovski crystals on it..i was in love!!! They were both on the pricier side but I’m glad that I got them because it fit my vision of how I wanted to look.

Dress-RK Bridal-A+
I had been looking online at different dresses and the designer that stuck out the most to me was Casablanca all of their dresses look so beautiful and just so unique to me. So I come across this beautiful tiered dress that looked like nothing I had ever seen so I had to try it on and RK bridal carries the Casablanca line so I decided to trek on over to them. So one snowy Saturday in January my mom and I decided to head into the city to check out RK and we got their at 9am and were the first ones on the line. They opened up at 9:30am and right away we set up with an attendant Olga. I showed her pictures of dresses I liked along with the picture of the beautiful tiered dress. Olga pulled out some of the dresses I had shown her because some of them had been discontinued and the first one I tried on was the one I had loved from when I had first seen it online and it looked superb on me. I tried on some others and none of them had given me that affect then I came across another one that was beautiful as well and fit me beautifully. So now I had to choose between two dresses at the end my tiered lacy beauty won and I had my dress. The fittings went very well but at one of the fittings I had to wait a 30 minutes extra since my appt was at 3pm I didn’t get brought in until 3:30 but that was the only time I had any issues. My seamstress Nina was wonderful and gave me an awesome bustle that didn’t move all night.
This is the only pic i have of my full dress right now..i will have more when i get my Pro pics.

BM dresses, MOB dress and bestman’s tux-My party boutique-A+
My mom and I came across this store one day while she was starting to look for dress so we decided to walk in and check it out. Sandra, the owner was there she asked my mom what type of dress she wanted and started pulling some off the rack. Sandra got my mom’s vision right away and knew what my mom was looking for and sure enough she found one that she fell in love with right away a gorgeous gown that had rouching and some crystals in the bodice with a bolero jacket. My mom can be shy at times and she felt very comfortable right away with Sandra. So since we had gotten such excellent customer service I decided to bring my BM’s so they can get their dresses and sure enough Sandra had samples of all the dresses I had brought pictures of to show her. My BM’s had their alterations done on site and everything was perfect. One of my BM’s was being very picky and said the dress look discolored but when I checked it there was nothing lol.
Sandra was truly a life saver for me because my bestman never got his tux and waited until one week before the wedding to want to get his tux even though we were after him for so long to get it. Sandra called up her contacts and we got the suit on the Wednesday before the wedding even though he had ordered it on the Friday before. Her seamstress Alejandra altered it on the spot and it was perfect!! It’s a small store but Sandra makes you feel so comfortable you feel like you’ve known her for years and the customer service is top notch!!
My BM's, mom and FG

My mom

Men’s Wearhouse-Bronx-B
I didn’t know that My party Boutique had tuxes until I had to scramble at the last minute for my bestman so we went over to the Men’s wearhouse in the Bronx. I will repeat DO NOT EVER GO HERE ON A SATURDAY!!! It was a total madhouse and the wait was ridiculous!!!! Once we finally taken care of DH got the suit he wanted and that was that. The customer service wasn’t anything spectacular. The alterations were fine and the suit was perfect but I wouldn’t go back to MW if DH had to ever get a tux again.

FG dress-mygirldress.com-A+
I didn’t want my FG mom to spend a ton of money so I ordered the dress for her at mygirldress.com for $50 and it was so beautiful and the quality was excellent!! I totally recommend ordering from them because it came super quick and the dress was perfect.

Church-St.Bartholomew-A+
I had called a few churches but they never called me back so I had always loved St.Bartholomew’s since I had gotten baptized there and the pics I had seen were so beautiful I knew that it would be perfect for us. We met with Father Hoffman and he was awesome!! He joked with us on the first day of our pre cana classes and made us feel so comfortable and he was just so personable..we loved him!! Everytime I called to schedule a pre cana he would call me back the same day or the next day. He is truly awesome and now St. Bartholomew’s is our parish. The church is just so gorgeous with the high ceilings and has that old world feel that we love.

Photography and video-Duet/Nick’s team-A+
I visited their Manhattan office which was really nice but if you can make the trip into LI then it’s worth it because you can speak with Eric. I saw someone else(forgot his name) and he had to call Eric
We didn’t do E-pics so when the day of the wedding came around we had no idea how to pose and how long we should keep a pose but with Nick he knew exactly how to handle that he guided us so well. Nick was so nice and made us feel so comfortable and at ease with his bright personality and he knew how to truly make us smile. When I was putting on my garter he even knew which leg I should put it on since I had no clue lol. When Nick and Sam saw DH’s cufflinks they were laughing hysterically since they had never seen any like those. The videographer(I forgot his name) was amazing as well. I will post pro pics once I get them. I always spoke to Sue if I wanted to give her more info regarding where we were taking pics after the ceremony and when I wanted to add video into my package and she was always responsive and great to deal with.

Florist-Designs by Rose-A+
Rose and Doris are a mother daughter team and they are truly amazing!! I went to visit them and from the gorgeous designs they showed me I loved it all and I booked them on the spot. They knew I was on a budget and they worked with me and gave me the most beautiful flowers ever. They worked with my color scheme and came up with an amazing design for my CP’s, bouquet and all the other flowers..when I saw them I was in awe of how gorgeous they looked. They were super responsive everytime I had a question or if I wanted to revise my cp design they came thru for me. The day of the wedding Doris came to deliver my flowers and told me how beautiful I looked. They are both truly amazing and were such dolls to work they gave you that one on one experience that you want from a vendor.

DJ-Ultimate Sound DJ’s-A+
My mom and I had went to USDJ’s office and met with Frank who was super informative and gave us the feel that he knew what he was doing and what he was talking about. He started showing us videos of different DJ’s and as soon as we saw Rafael and how awesome and animated he was and that my mom was dancing in her seat, I knew I had to book them. Then Frank showed us a video of the different MC’s they had and Janira stood out to me the most because she was really able to work a crowd and since I knew I wasn’t going to have a ton of guests I really needed that. They usually have showcases at Dante’s in Queens so DH and I went to one because I wanted him to see who our DJ was going to be. So sure enough Rafael rocked the house along with the other DJ’s and DH told me I had made an excellent choice!! After the showcase was over with we spoke to Rafael and after our conversation I felt even more reassured that I had made a great choice. Fast forward to two days before the wedding Rafael called me up personally to go over everything which was a really nice touch because you get to speak to the actual DJ and also Janira did the same which was very nice as well. Since our entrance and last song of the night were from Mariano Rivera’s entrance and when the Yankees win they knew instantly we were Yankee fans so when we walked in they introduced us the Yankee bride and groom and they had blue lights for us . They rocked the house all day long!!They played one of our most play songs but we had to take pictures so we asked Rafael to please play it again later one when we were there and sure enough once we came back he played it for us.We had a variety of music from Techno, Top 40, Samba, Soundtrack music, Salsa, Reggaeton, Old School Reggae, Merengue & Cumbia. Even one of my cousins wants to hire them for a Halloween party.

You could see the lights we had

Limo-Camelot-A+
What can I say that all of LIW doesn’t know..Joe is amazing!!!! DH and I met him and on the spot we booked with him because we knew we could count on him. We got a regular limo, a Rolls Royce and a towncar for the end of the night. On the day of the wedding we got a 13 passenger limo and a Expedition!!!!!!!!!! Like holy moly how crazy and awesome was that!! The driver’s were the best!! DH told me his driver got to his house at 8am super early and was very pleasant and super friendly the entire time and my driver was wonderful!! She helped me with my dress the entire time and even drove us around the church because the church didn’t have a room to stay at until the processional started. Our driver at the end of the night was perfect because he talked to us and joked around but allowed us to talk amongst each other and didn’t interrupt us or anything. The cars were clean and gorgeous. DH told me the 13 passenger limo was awesome inside, clean and spacious.

Rolls Royce

Makeup-Ciara from alldolledupny.com-A+
I was referred to her by another bride on here Mrs.Bernabe who used her and looked amazing on her wedding day!! I contacted Ciara she was very quick with her emails and we set up a trial right away. I loved my trial she knew exactly what I wanted from pictures I had shown her. Her mom is so nice and her dog is too cute . She arrived promptly to my house at 6am and started right away on my SIL, then my mom then myself we all came out looking like a million bucks. We all did airbrushing and got rave reviews from everyone. My makeup was flawless and it stayed on until the next morning because I passed out with it still on lol.

Hair- M*i*a-A+
I saw so many pictures of brides that had their hair done by M*i*a and each time their hair looked perfect so I had to have a trial with her no matter how much it cost. I booked my trial and I loved the hairstyle she did for me so I booked her on the spot. She was always very responsive with emails and never a problem. Then I started to see negative reviews on here about her and I started to freak that she would do the same to me but nonetheless I said I’ll just stick it out. About two months to my day I decided to go for an updo but didn’t have the time to go for another trial so I decided to leave my faith in M*i*a’s hands and sure enough on the day of the wedding she got my vision perfectly and made me look like a million bucks. She also did my SIL’s hair just with the guidance of my SIL telling her I want my hair to the side and M*i*a executed it perfectly with no pictures. Her curls stayed up all night while my other BM’s who also had curls done but didn’t get their hair done by M*i*a their hair looked flat by the end of the day.

You can see my SIL's hair she's the one with the brown dress and her makeup by Ciara

DOC-Chrissi from Fairytale events-A+

Chrissi was truly a life saver!! She was on top of everything throughout the day making sure my unity candle was up at the church, handing out my tips, letting me know about my menu mishap and making sure that everything in my reception room was perfect and that everything was packed up. She was always there fixing my dress when I was going to take a picture and asking me if I needed anything. If I didn’t have Chrissi there with me on that day I would’ve been lost because with having a missing bridal attendant who didn’t do anything for me I would’ve been in major trouble.

Fairytale events blog

Reception Hall-Leonard’s of Great Neck/Continental room-B-
I was given a nice price and since we were on a tight budget we booked on the spot. My BM Mauricio left Leonard’s and I was never notified that he had left or anything, I found out thru LIW. So leading up to the day everything was okay with them no major problems. So we get to Leonard’s and we are greeted by a maitre’d- Billy and a bridal attendant( I don’t even remember her name because she was absent the entire night) and everything seemed fine. Since I was so wrapped up with everything going on I didn’t even realize that they had left out a tier and instead of giving me a 4 tiered cake they had given me a 3 tiered cake ( I had also forgotten to tell my DOC since I figured they wouldn’t mess this up!!!), the bridal attendant was missing the entire night( I found out later on that she was waitressing another wedding so she wasn't even a bridal attendant she was a waitress!!), she came and asked us one time if we needed a drink so if we would’ve been waiting on her to serve us drinks we would’ve been parched, the maitre’d was also missing the entire night he came around once or twice and that was that. The bartender did more for us than the bridal attendant and the maitre’d so at the end of the night he got half of the BA’s tip and she got nothing that’s how pissed off I was!! They gave us a Chateau briand instead of a Filet Mignon. When it was time for me to toss my bouquet I couldn’t find it because they had taken my bouquet inside the back room along with our cake where it was getting cut up. The food was okay compared to another wedding we had been to in 2007 but the drinks were on point the entire night, we even got shots!! The cake tasted delicious was soft and yummy just was missing a tier lol. We upgraded our cake because we fell in love with this design. I was told that the CH had tons of food and the frozen daiquiris were delish!! While we were taking pictures out on the lobby they had a curtain separating us from the other party and i didn't see anyone at all the entire night it felt like we were the only ones there. When I got home later on I noticed my cardbox was missing a lot of the pearls and rhinestones since they had been so rough with it and also my cake topper was missing some stones as well. The décor of the room made up for all the screw ups and our guests didn’t notice any of the mistakes they had done.

Looking out across the room from the dais

Mini-moon:Fernwood hotel and resort:A
We decided to go on a mini honeymoon to the Poconos and stayed at Fernwood hotel and resort in one of their villas and it was so nice to just get away from it all. We really loved that the villas were their own house and you couldn’t hear what other people were doing and it felt like we were truly alone. We shopped at some of the outlets on 299 on I-80 and they had the same prices as Tanger but less crowded. We went to Bushkill falls where we took some amazing pictures which I will be adding later on as well. The one thing I hated was that there was no room service you had to clean up after yourself..lol..i know lazy!!

In January we will be going on a 8 day cruise to the Caribbean on Carnival so i will be adding onto my review a review on the cruise

I just want to let everyone know that please enjoy all the planning and your day to the fullest because you will never get those memories back, so please eat, drink and dance your hearts out on your wedding day because you will never get that back!! Also don’t sweat the small stuff

I am booked for Leonards and this review worries me..A bridal attendant that is *** most of the time and later you learn she was a waitress at another wedding there?? Thats insane! I will have to ask Antonio about this when I see him...

Also, for the cake - did you go with their house cakes or with an outside vendor? I have read there were problems with their cakes because they only offer like 2 or 3 choices and if you want something that looks nicer or decorated w certain flowers, you need to "upgrade" (pay more like $450 for it)...

I went with their house cake but paid $325 for their upgrade because i wanted something not so plain.
