Had my Reproductive Endocrinologist appt last night
It went pretty well. Both DH and I really liked the Dr. He was very straight foreward and no sugar coating (which we prefer). He upped my Glucophage to 3 - 500mg pills a day (I have PCOS and do not ovulate on my own). We will give this only until Jan to work and then we will start the Clomid. He only wants to try that for 3-4 cycles and if it does not work go to IVF, which I am a bit nervous about with the multiples but he said he can cut back on the eggs to make it more reasonable.
I also have to go for a test to make sure there is no blockage in my tubes (there is no evidence of this, but we want to rule it out sooner rather than later). He said this test can be a bit painful for 5-10 minutes. Has anyone had this? Was it very painful??
I am so excited that we are moving foreward on everything

Re: Had my Reproductive Endocrinologist appt last night
Liz,
Best of luck to you. I didn't have PCOS, but I didn't ovulate on my own, so I know what you are going through! The test is called HSG for short, I think. I was scheduled to have one as well, and lo and behold, I became PG. They inject a dye through you to see if htere is a blockage. I didn't have one but my friend did. She said it was like having cramps for a bit.
Best of luck to you and BABY DUST!!

Re: Had my Reproductive Endocrinologist appt last night
I had an HSG.
I don't want to scare you , but mine hurt. But, both my tubes were blocked. I know people that had it done with no blockages and said it was a piece of cake.
I also think the place where I had it done had something to do with it. The Dr who performed the test had to clamp my cervix and she didn't even warn me and was not gentle about it!! I've had it clamped a few times since and it did not hurt at all!
When they shot the dye through it felt like the worst period cramps I ever had, but it was only for a few minutes. Again, this is probably b/c both tubes were *totally* blocked. Of course the stupid Dr kept trying to FORCE the fluid through and the pressure was unbelievable!!
Again, remember this is only b/c my tubes were blocked! And, just to put your mind at ease, we pretty much knew they were blocked to begin with!
I suggest you take a few advil an hour or two before the test. Don't worry about it, you'll be fine

Hi Liz I'm glad to hear your appointment went well. I had an HSG and luckily for me it was pain free. It takes a few minutes so it was a little uncomfortable but thats about it. Good Luck to you and DH.

Re: Had my Reproductive Endocrinologist appt last night
Good luck Lizd. I also have pcos and I am going through similar treatments.
I have been on glucophage for over a year and I just finished my first clomid cycle. I should know in a few days if it was successful.

Re: Had my Reproductive Endocrinologist appt last night
StayandJohn - it is the same glucophage that type 2 diabetics take. It is believed by many doctors that PCOS is caused by a problems with insulin.

Re: Had my Reproductive Endocrinologist appt last night
Hi Liz! I, too, have PCOS and have been on Metformin (glucofage) since May. I started ovulating on my own in July and I just found out last week that I am pregnant! I was scheduled for an HSG in November. I will say some prayers that you will start ovulating on your own, and that your test goes well. Good Luck! --Diane
