Re: TTC-PCOS
Hey there,
I was just diagnosed with PCOS today. I've been in really severe pain for like 6 weeks and my sonogram results just came back showing PCOS. While it's nice to have a diagnosis finally, I have been devastated all day at the thought of not being able to conceive. It also increases your chances of miscarriage and various other health risks that are serious.
Do you have PCOS or are you just thinking you might have it? Not ovulating could be caused by other things, are you having abdominal pain?? That was my major symptom that led to all this. Not ovulating regularly definitely makes it much more difficult to conceive but as FH has been researching for the last hour, there are medications that can help. My doctor is putting me on a medication to stimulate my period (even without ovulation, it can increase risk of endometrial cancer down the road if you don't have some kind of period) and when I am seriously trying to conceive if I can't naturally we'll attempt to with medications. But if you are trying now, or soon, talk to your doctor ASAP and figure out what's going on!
Hope you're still interested in this thread, I realize it's from last month but it's exactly what I was looking for tonight Feel free to FM me if you want.

Re: TTC-PCOS
Sorry I haven't been on this thread in a while. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago. I am currently being treated with Metformin because it is not cysts, it is high levels of testosterone.
I spoke with my dr and she said that when the time is right she will put me on Clomid.
Now it is just a waiting game!

Re: TTC-PCOS
Ahh so you know far more than me, haha, I didn't know you definitely had it... I have the cysts and now that I'm off birth control for a month to run more blood tests on hormone levels I feel all wacky because of the hormonal changes. Can't wait to go back on the birth control because I already feel the pain from cysts that are probably newly growing. My doctor said she is going to put me on metformin also, any good/bad effects?
ETA- There are other posts on the TTC threads about clomid and all very good things!! So that's encouraging! My doc said same thing but I'm waiting til after the wedding.

Re: TTC-PCOS
I'm a cheese junky. Unfortunately Metformin and dairy do not mix well at all. My sister has PCOS as well. If she consumes too much dairy she spends hours vomiting. That is the only side effect I know of.
A good side effect is from the time I started it until about a year later I lost @ 60lbs!!

Re: TTC-PCOS
dwkswed. Just a diagnosis of ovarian cysts does not mean that you have pcos. I have multiple cysts and do not have pcos. Deffinitely persue getting your hormones checked.
About metformin. I was on it a while back. You must pay attention to your body while on it. There is a serious side effect called lactic acidosis, which I had. It can be fatal.

Re: TTC-PCOS
Hey... I know, I have PCOS though, they've done follow-up testing and everything. I was confused about it at first but they ran other tests to confirm. I'm getting put on metformin next week, I will definitely watch out for that, what are the symptoms?

Re: TTC-PCOS
Sorry I haven't been on this thread lately, I have been taking the metformin for almost a month (my doctor held off for a few months) and I went through some annoying side effects at first, really dizzy for the first few days, some stomach problems the first couple of weeks, but now it's pretty good, I don't feel much different anymore (actually felt more energized and balanced out if that makes sense at first) and I lost some weight initially but don't think I have since, need to give it time to see what happens with it.

Re: TTC-PCOS
Hi ladies....a question if you don't mind. What symptoms did you have before you were diagnosed with PCOS? Did you have irregular or regular periods? Thanks so much...

Re: TTC-PCOS
It started with me that I got pains in my stomach that I thought were related to digestion problems for the longest time, went to a GI doctor and had some GI tests done that showed nothing. Finally my doctor suggested I might be lactose intolerant and have some kind of GYN thing wrong causing the pain in the ovary area. I went for a sonogram that showed multiple small cysts on each ovary... I was on birth control so I had to go off of it for a couple months to have blood tests done and my hormone levels were out of wack, not in the proper ratio or whatever, I'm not sure if it was b/c of that or adjusting to being off the BC but I felt totally crazy like hot flashes and moody when I was off the BC. I felt better when I went back on it (which is supposed to help prevent cysts from growing, the polycystic thing doesn't stop for me though, my latest sonogram showed the same thing). Other than that, I didn't get any of the testosterone-ish symptoms like weird hair growth but definitely I have/had weight problems typical of it, holding all my weight in my stomach, difficulty losing, lack of energy... since going on different meds I've felt better and am working on losing weight too. When I first had the pains and stuff I didn't get a regular period for like 2 months and then it was irregular for a few months. All of this happened around the time I was diagnosed, I was generally a few days later each month than I should have been since I'm on BC but the only REALLY irregular time was for about 3 months when I first got the ovarian pain.
Sorry if that's TMI but at first my doctor was so not helpful with any info and hearing people talk about their experience helped me understand, and there's tons of stuff out there on the internet about PCOS so check it out, I figured out I had it before my doctor did! (I am switching doctors, lol, to one who knows something about this condition!)
If you have any other questions shoot me an FM, I am sure girls on here have more info because I've only known I have this since July/August but I'll share what I can! HTH

Re: TTC-PCOS
I was extremely irregular before I was diagnosed with PCOS. Even on medication I still am.
My symptoms were: facial hair, weight gain and inability to lose weight (when I was first diagnosed I was about 300lbs), male pattern hair loss.
Since I started the medication I've lost about 60lbs and kept it off. The hair loss has slowed down but my cycle is still way off. Last year I went 10 months with nothing and then 3.
I've been treated for this by an endochrinologist for about 5 years, so if you have any questions, feel free to FM me!

Re: TTC-PCOS
Hi Sadie! I hope all is working out with the Metformin!
I was diagnosed with PCOS back in July, and I was put on Metformin. I went through horrible mood swings, dizzy/fainting spells so they took me off of it. So now I am going to put on Clomid after 3 cycles of birth control to regularize my cycles. How is everything working out for you??
