NYCityWeddings.com Interview With Erganic Design
Erganic Design
Interviewed Aug 24, 2009 “Conscious design for beautiful living”… we came up with this slogan during a design charrette a few of my design colleagues and I were having years ago. We offer not only beautiful, chic, unique design ideas, but they can be ecologically conscious. Many times our brides are shocked at the organic callas we provide for them… especially the sticker price!
The word “Erganic” is a fusion of ergonomics & organic – the “science of design for function & maximizing productivity to custom fit the person”, meets “pure & natural, without additives”; this synergy is a way of being. The events we design are custom tailored to our clients, and are functional works of art. We respect color, form, function and florals; we stay true to what the clients want, never including unnecessary elements, and unnecessary cost.
What services do you offer?
We offer couples our expertise in design, production, coordination, and consulting. From soup to nuts, we can design the entire event & produce it. Some clients just need some design guidance, while others need our strong organizational skills for their big day and hire us as their Day of Coordinators. All clients receive white glove service and excellent customer service.
Why is hiring a coordinator beneficial to the bride/couple?
The #1 main beneficial reason is to reduce and eliminate stress! No matter what, there will be increased levels of stress during the planning of a wedding. We all deal with stress differently. Our team focuses on finding the right balance for the bride & groom, to provide them the freedom to enjoy the excitement of preparing for their big day; yet eliminating the stressful and overwhelming aspects. We also realize that some brides enjoy vendor meetings, while others would rather watch paint dry. So we interview our clients carefully to understand what they want and need!
Another great reason to hire a coordinator is “3 heads are better than 2!” Well, in our case our team consists of 6, but you get the point. We always come up with ideas and concepts the clients haven’t considered or thought of. Not just design ideas and concepts, but money saving ideas and concepts. A great coordinator shows the clients how to save money or shows the couple how to stretch their dollar beyond what they thought possible.
What can or should a bride expect from a coordinator?
A bride should expect excellent customer service; she should feel like she’s the only client the coordinator has. The bride should expect a coordinator to be an articulate, well spoken communicator who is savvy in dealing with a variety of personalities (vendors), and who can be polite and smooth; as well as a coordinator who knows how to lay down the law on the day of, yet never skip a beat. A bride should never have to know about any issues that may come up on the day of her wedding; and if she does find out it’s long after, and is a mere story filled with accolades towards her coordinator!
How soon after she gets engaged should a bride secure the services of a coordinator?
If the bride is planning to get married within 6 months after the engagement, then she should secure a coordinator as soon as possible. If she is getting married within a year and needs a full service coordinator she should also secure a coordinator as soon as possible. For brides needing only partial planning or “day of/week of” coordination, they have some flexibility in time, but to keep stress levels down, securing a coordinator at least 6 months out is the best strategy.
Does a coordinator take over the entire planning process or does she accompany and assist the bride?
A coordinator is always there as the brides assistant. Yes in some cases she does get involved with the entire process, but at no time should the bride ever feel like the coordinator has taken over the entire planning process. It is the bride’s wedding and she needs to feel a sense of control; it’s the coordinators responsibility to create a balanced relationship in which the bride feels she is fully a part of the process, knowing the coordinator is handling all the nuances and details pertaining to her specific needs.
How can a coordinator be of service to a bride who really doesn’t know what direction she wants to go in?
By providing her a well thought out set of ideas and concepts, after thoroughly interviewing the bride and groom; the coordinator should get a clear understanding of what the wedding couple likes and dislikes. This can be achieved by visual aids (look books, concept boards, photography), meaningful questions from the coordinator about style, seasons, food (what ignites the senses?) and other creative ways to extract information about the bride and groom.
Are you present the day of the wedding?
I never miss a wedding! I’m always there with bells on… quiet bells!
In what capacity do you assist the bride/couple on the wedding day?
We are literally the bride’s assistant on the day of. My team is with her while she is getting ready, taking photos, heading to the ceremony, down the aisle, taking more photos, heading to the cocktail hour…. You get the picture. We provide at least 2 staff members for every wedding because there is power in numbers. We think the most important aspect of the day is to keep the bride and groom fully focused on enjoying their wedding. And we do everything in our power and abilities to ensure this happens!
